Pitch Night applications close soon

Innovative entrepreneurs have until Friday, May 17, to submit applications for St. Pete Pitch Night. The biannual event sponsored by The Greenhouse and St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce is June 11 at Coastal Creative, and five selected participants will compete for $5,000 in prize money. HCA Florida Healthcare employees complete month of service

HCA Florida Healthcare employees from HCA Florida Largo Hospital, Northside Hospital, Pasadena Hospital and St. Petersburg Hospital completed the company's third annual statewide "We Show Up for Our Communities" month of service in April,  providing more than 120 volunteer hours (from 60 colleagues)to volunteer with Keep Pinellas Beautiful. They also donated 30 lbs. of food to the Lealman and Asian Neighborhood Family Center, 197 lbs. of food to Reach St. Petersburg and over 650 meals to Feeding Tampa Bay's Cereal for Summer Program.

Applications open for health tech accelerator

Tampa Bay Wave has opened applications for its inaugural 2024 Health Tech | X Accelerator program that launches July 22. A U.S. Economic Development Administration grant supports the free 90-day course, which features mentoring, pitch coaching and investment readiness training. Free admission Saturday at Great Explorations

The Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County is partnering with the Florida Division of Early Learning to host a Free Museum Day at Great Explorations Children's Museum in St. Petersburg Saturday (May 4) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include a full day of programs, a planetarium show and giveaways for kids and families. 

YMCA opens registration for summer camps

As the school year comes to a close in the coming weeks, YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is opening registration for its day, teen and specialty camps. Camp descriptions and registration are available on the YMCA's website here.

USF receives $7 million in gifts in five days

The University of South Florida set another Giving Week record as over 9,200 people gave more than $7 million in donations from April 8 through 12. The university set its previous record of $6.6 million in 2023. Donors supported 370 causes, and 334 people contributed to the much-anticipated on-campus stadium project

Housing Finance Authority applications due Wednesday

Residents have until 3 p.m. Wednesday to submit applications for an appointment to the Pinellas Housing Finance Authority. The committee evaluates housing policies, procedures and regulations and provides recommendations to Pinellas County Commissioners. Volunteers needed for waterway cleanup events

Keep Pinellas Beautiful and Pinellas County Environmental Management seeks volunteers to help beautify the Cross Bayou Canal and Joe’s Creek as part of the Great American Cleanup campaign. The organizations will provide canoes, lifejackets, trash grabbers, bags, gloves and drinking water. Habitat expands to Hernando County, rebrands

Habitat for Humanity International has tapped the local affiliate to expand its efforts further throughout the region. Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties will now help families in Hernando County achieve their dreams of homeownership. The organization will release a new name and brand in the coming weeks. The local affiliate has built 81 homes this year and 600 over the past decade.

Rays announce racial equity grant recipients

The Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Foundation and Rowdies Soccer Fund announced the 2024 Racial Equity Grant recipients Monday in honor of the 77th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier. The Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women, James B. Sanderlin Neighborhood Family Center, Sing Out and Read and Where Love Grows, Inc. each received $25,000. Students from the Poynter Institute’s Write Field Program also interviewed several local community leaders before Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Fast Pitch event highlights local nonprofits

Black Dog Venture Partners and ShopRaise will host a Nonprofit Fast Pitch event at 1 p.m. May 1 to help raise awareness and funding for charities. Stan Liberatore, chairman of Save the Kids Foundation, and Ambee Stephens, founder of EmpoweHERment, are among the local presenters who will pitch their cause to investors and donors. Habitat dedicates sixth home this week

Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counites celebrated providing six new homeownership opportunities this week, with four in St. Petersburg. The home dedications began Monday in Tarpon Springs before moving south. Habitat’s busy week follows a recent report stating that Tampa Bay households must now earn $116,000 annually to secure a mortgage.
